THE PLACE: Bryce Canyon is a fairytale amphitheater of rock formations and pink “hoodoos” (pinnacles), perhaps the most unusual display of erosional forms on earth. Nearby Grand Staircase is a virtually undiscovered wonderland of hanging plateaus and slender gorges for you to explore! These gems of our national park system receive many visitors, but few like our groups, explore the off-the-beaten-path trails. DAY 1 – TRAVEL, CHARTER FLIGHT, AND ARRIVE AT THE STONE CANYON INN All team members should fly into Las Vegas where we will hop a late afternoon charter flight to a remote airstrip on the Paunsagaunt Plateau. Next it is a short 15-minute shuttle to the Stone Canyon Inn where we will dine on the patio and hold a welcome orientation as the sun sets afire the pink cliffs of Powell Point across the valley. DAY 2 - BRYCE CANYON HIKE INTO THE MAZE OF HOODOO FORMATIONS We will start our walk along the rim before descending into this wild land of rock as we hike downhill through a surreal maze of pink hoodoos and rock windows all the way to the mouth of the Bryce amphitheater. DAY 3 – NON-TECHNICAL CANYONEERING We will wake up in the peaceful surroundings of the Stone Canyon Inn to a nourishing breakfast prepared by your guides. The Navajo phrase describing a slot canyon is “Tse neh gi too na aah dis zjaa “translated it means… “A place where water has painted a picture of itself”. Only a half hour drive from the Inn will take us in the heart of Grand Staircase National Monument to enjoy a fabulous hike in a slot canyon where you will understand the Navajo description firsthand. DAY 4 - HIKE ANGELS LANDING RETURN TO LAS VEGAS Today we bid good-bye to Stone Canyon and enter Zion National Park to begin the day’s hike strolling beneath shady Cottonwood and Sycamore trees by the Virgin River’s edge. After descending back to the canyon floor, it is customary to take a cool plunge into the Virgin River and relax under a Cottonwood Tree. Here basking in the glow of completing our final challenge together we will hold our closing ceremonies before returning to Las Vegas. |
